About Big Frank’s Resort (Hahn-a-Lula)
Big Frank’s Resort in Fremont, WI carries on the legacy of the iconic Hahn-a-Lula, a Wolf River favorite since the 1960s. What began as a modest ballroom has grown into a year-round destination for camping, events and family fun. Today, we’re blending old-school charm with new experiences to create something everyone can enjoy.
From Ballroom Roots to Riverfront Getaway
Big Frank’s Resort carries on a local tradition beginning in 1961, when Cliff and Judy Hahn, along with Ken and Barb Hahn, purchased the Orihula Ballroom. What started as a side hobby for two farm families became a full-time passion and a cornerstone of the community. The ballroom was barebones in the beginning, heated by coal furnaces and powered by little more than grit and pink-painted plywood.
A Legacy of Growth and Hospitality
By 1966, Cliff and Judy took full ownership and began building something bigger. They added mobile homes, dug out a spring-fed lake and expanded the property into a year-round retreat. Over the next 60+ years, the resort evolved into a full-service destination with camping sites, RV hookups, family-friendly lodging, fishing access, a swimming beach and a packed event calendar.
The New Chapter: Big Frank’s
Now under new ownership and rebranded as Big Frank’s Resort, the spirit of the original lives on, welcoming new guests while honoring the families and traditions of Hahn-a-Lula. We’re building the legacy with new experiences, refreshed amenities and the same dedication to fun, family and Fremont.
What Stays the Same
The river still flows, the campground still welcomes generations of guests and the memories still feel just as fresh. While Big Frank’s brings a new energy to the space, we’re keeping the classic charm and character of this Fremont staple. Guests can expect the same friendly atmosphere, relaxing pace and sense of tradition—just with a few new stories waiting to be made.
